Message from the Director

Welcome to the Upstate Family Medicine Residency program. We are very excited to offer our university and community-based program that combines the rigors of academic education with a deep focus on public health and community service. As program director, it is my goal to produce the finest quality family physicians able to serve in urban, suburban and rural practice as well as preparing them for leadership and faculty positions in our specialty. 

Our residents will rotate through two respected academic powerhouses in Upstate Medical University, home to many thriving residency programs with excellent academic teaching, scholarly activity and research, and the Syracuse Veterans Administration Medical Center, identified as one of the nation’s best institutions dedicated to the care of veterans. In addition, Upstate Medical University through the Department of Public Health and Preventive Medicine offers the opportunity to pursue further training in public health, culminating in a Certificate of Additional Study in Public Health (CASPH).

Our residents will practice full-scope family medicine including maternity care at our Upstate Hospital Community Campus, the home base for our residency program. It is the primary residency program in the hospital and serves a diverse population base.

Our experienced faculty is a passionate group of caring physicians, each committed to teaching our residents and engaging patient care and community health. They bring innovative thinking and a diversity of talents with a broad range of clinical interests.

Residents in our program are instrumental in its development and overall success. We are seeking individuals who desire innovation, excellent clinical training and a strong academic education fostering scholarly and research activity.
