Practice of Medicine (POM)
The Department of Emergency Medicine provides simulation education activities for medical students at the EM-STAT Center.
POM I
Students gain experience in auscultation and patient assessment using a human patient simulator. In part 1, students work with EM faculty and residents in the sim lab learning how to assess a patient. In part 2, the students learn to apply their knowledge of a patient assessment to begin a treatment plan.
POM II
Students have the opportunity to work with EM faculty and residents using case-based learning. The student teams work through three different case scenarios. The teams assess an adult, child and infant to develop a treatment plan and learn the pathophysiology of the case scenario.
